I don't see this as a defensive upgrade at all. I see it as a huge downgrade

But will they be good defensively? I'll be the first to admit I haven't spent hours breaking down the film on these guys but from everything Ive read and looked up, neither player is much of an improvement on the defensive side of the ball. I would've loved to see Dumars pick up a forward/center that could make opponents think twice about driving to the lane.

Maybe Detroit will succeed by out shooting everyone and maybe by going a bit younger the team will be better on defense by default but I just don't think these moves make the Pistons more of a contender than you can be in a crappy conference.

Then again, maybe that's all you need to win the east? What do you think?

Detroit never went to the paint. Even when they won their latest Championship, it's not like Ben Wallace was dunking over anybody. They beat teams with their mid-range game and relentless defense. And the two most recent additions will definitely let Detroit stay quick all over the court.
