Good pt. A lot of the people who are so caught up in this...weren't even alive when he was popular...I think people are much smarter than the MSM gives them credit for...maybe. I think if we were constantly fed information relvant to our lives instead of crap, I think a good portion of the populace would be favorable to it. I don't think they would clamor for celebrity death, natural disasters and car crashes.

Really really like this, Paul. And I agree with a lot of it. It's chicken & egg whether the MSM has made people think this event was that important to them or whether people's reactions made the MSM handle it the way they did. With every bit I read/saw from some 23-year old saying how tragic this was, I couldn't help but think about how even at 28, MJs music of import was barely made in my lifetime and guess what...the tapes/CDs/mp3s still exist

I would agree with you that MJ accomplished a WHOLE LOT more than Anna Nicole ever did...he did contribute quite a bit to society, while she was nothing but walking/living masturbation fodder. Still the media will go nuts over anyone dying remotely famous regardless of what they brought to the table

I too, am in complete agreement. I am sick and tired of the cable networks blasting non-stop coverage of MJ. The only network that should be blowing out coverage for him should be MTV, considering he had such a mega role in jumpstarting that network when it was on life support, or entertainment channels such as E, VH1, etc.

There are 100 different things we should be talking about in the MSM. For instance, today is the day we are starting to pull troops out of Iraqi cities, but you have to dig deep to find that out. I don't get the infatuation with celebrity death and destruction (plane crashes) that we have undergone in this country. Don't get me wrong, a lot of times celebrities deserve some sort of recognition for their life accomplishments, but hit me with some real news that will affect me and my well being.

Really enjoyed the article.

Interesting argument, but I don't think you can really compare MJ's death with Anna Nicole Smith's. Jackson was one of the best performers in music history and was arguably the most famous person in the world at one point. Smith was.... actually, I hardly know who Smith was, and I think that proves my point

That was hysterical! I saw that.

Like Meyer Wolfsheim said in "The Great Gatsby" Let us show our respects for a man while he is alive!

Totally agree. John Stewart had some funny bits yesterday with a CBS commentator: you are witnessing the death of Michael Jackson. This will only happen once.
Duh!
