White Sox to Continue Pitching Unconventional Six Man Rotation

phil humber

After the sweep over everyone’s preseason champion Boston Red Sox, the Chicago White Sox now have a 9-6 record with a 4.22 ERA in 21 starts since employing the six-man rotation. Manager Ozzie Guillen confirmed today that the Sox will stick with the unconventional plan. The White Sox are 18-25 while using a five man rotation.

Maybe this will catch on across the major leagues? Or is this just a fluky nuance like Tony La Russa batting St. Louis Cardinals pitchers eighth? As of now, the Sox will continue to go put Mark Buerhle, Gavin Floyd, John Danks, Edwin Jackson, Phil Humber and Jake Peavy out there.

But if they do revert back to a traditional five man rotation, who would drop out?

There are three candidates among the six.

White Sox Winning by Out-Bludgeoning Opposition

After their 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon, the Chicago White Sox pushed their record to 5-3. There are still plenty of questions about this year’s White Sox team but one thing is for sure: they can score runs.

As of now they are leading the MLB in runs scored and are third in batting average. However, it’s troubling how they’re giving up plenty of runs as well. On Opening Day, the Sox looked magnificent at the plate, jumping out to a 14-0 lead over the Cleveland Indians.

Mark Buehrle cruised through five innings of shutout ball but then gave up four runs in the 6th. When all was said and done, the White Sox came out a winner, 15-10. That’s not exactly the ideal way to win. Yet, that’s the way Ozzie Guillen and his Sox are going to get the job done this year (for the most part) and fans better hope that method can carry them all the way to the Fall Classic.

Is Jake Peavy Ever Coming Back to the White Sox?

jake peavy

At this point, we will see Jake Peavy as the starting pitcher for your Chicago White Sox. On opening day. 2018.

Seriously, I was at the game when Peavy’s detached lat injury occurred. I saw him with his shirt off in the locker room; and the sight was quite gruesome. An entire set of muscles detached and hanging from where they should be. I knew then he wouldn’t be back for the beginning of 2011.

Even though that’s what the Sox information control machine was telling us. Then it was he’d be back for the second month of 2011. And this timeline keeps shifting around. Usually moving back; and back again.

“They’re all dead?!?!” describes the “Lost” television series finale in three simple words.  “You’re Fired” are two words to perfectly summarize the “Celebrity Apprentice.”  And do these analogies compare to White Sox pitcher report cards for the first quarter of the 2010 season?  How about Ozzie Guillen’s future with the Sox?
