The NBA Trade Deadline came and went without any star players changing homes.  It was less entertaining than this season of American Idol… and that’s saying something.  In fact, the “biggest” name to be traded was J.J. Grizzlies send Rudy Gay to Raptors in three-team deal: trade breakdown

James Harden trade makes sense for both Thunder and Rockets

I’m at a Halloween party Saturday night; Lucky Strike cigarette hanging out on my mouth, glass of a scotch in my hand (I went as Don Draper from Mad Men) when I get a text that the Oklahoma City Thunder traded James Harden to the Houston Rockets.  I had the same look on my face that Don did when his wife Megan sang “Zou Bisou Bisou” in front of their friends at his 40th birthday party; one of shock and pure amazement.

The deal seemed to come from nowhere as I had seen no rumor tweeted or written anywhere leading up to the deal.  Here is my breakdown of the trade.

Steve Nash trade leads to point guard roulette in NBA

The Los Angeles Lakers made a huge splash by acquiring Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns for four future NBA Draft picks.  That deal has led to chain reaction of point guard movement in the NBA as Goran Dragic, Kyle Lowry, Jason Kidd, and possibly Jeremy Lin have all found new homes.

Memphis Grizzlies must upgrade depth this off-season

By signing their key players to contract extensions the past couple of years, the Memphis Grizzlies have a solid starting five.  However, their bench production has been average at best which has held them back a bit.  The Griz need to upgrade the talent behind their starters this off-season, but that will be difficult to do since the team has very little cap flexibility in free agency.

What will the Chicago Bulls do on NBA Draft night?

Winning 50 games in the lockout shortened season of 2011-12 was a major accomplishment for the Chicago Bulls.  However, all that excitement and hopefulness of re-claiming the Larry O’Brien Trophy came crashing down with one injury to Derrick Rose.  Unfortunately, that’s how the Bulls 2011-12 season will be remembered. Being the best regular season team in the NBA went all for not, as the Bulls suffered that very rare #8 over #1 upset to the Philadelphia 76ers.

And that ACL injury to Rose that cost them the first round playoff series also has major consequence on what happens next season; meaning it’s the number point to center around what they do in the offseason, and on NBA Draft night.
