Five Worst NBA Draft Night Suits (Photos)

joakim noah

Ah NBA Draft night, when league commissioner David Stern introduces men tall enough to set drinks on his head to a nation of college basketball and Association fans.

It’s also the night that the formal dress code gets thrown out the window. Fashion week, it is not. Get ready for more futuristic, throw backs to the past, and just plain old UGLY threads to grace the stage on Thursday night.

Top 10 NBA drafts of all time

nba draft-lottery-philadelphia-76ers

With the 2014 NBA draft expected to be one of the deepest ever, it’s the perfect time to take a look at the 10 best drafts in history.

This list starts with the 1966 draft, as drafts prior to that included “Territorial Picks”. In those days, teams were allowed to forfeit their first-round pick to take a player who attended college within 50 miles of their home arena. This was in the days before national TV, back when college hoops ruled, and the league hoped that placing stars close to home would help the NBA draw crowds who wanted to see their local heroes play professionally.

nba draft logo

The 2014 NBA draft will take place on Thursday, June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. All of the teams who either intentionally (like the Sixers) or unintentionally (like the Cavs) tanked last season will be looking to add that one player who can turn their franchise around.

With this year’s NBA draft class being touted as one of the greatest of all time, lots of fans of lots of teams are very excited to see what future superstar their favorite team will be adding. But someone should warn these guys and gals not to get their hopes up, as draft busts abound in the history of the NBA draft.

Flashback: 2011 NBA Draft Drinking Game

nash dirk drunk nba draft

Happy NBA Draft day! Time to flashback and republish one of our favorite NBA Draft articles of all time. It’s one that ESPN personality Jay Bilas himself acknowledges on NBA Draft night.

One of my favorite articles to write every year is the annual NCAA Tournament Championship Drinking Game. Here are the three we have done in case you missed them; 2009 Michigan State vs. North Carolina version, last year’s Butler vs. Duke one, and this past season’s Butler vs. UConn Drinking Game.

So why not do one for my favorite night of the year, the NBA Draft.  Even if you do not have a rooting interest in tonight’s draft and have never heard of half the players likely to be picked, invite some friends over, buy a heck of a lot of booze, follow our drinking rules, and you have a memorable night.

(UPDATE: Jay Bilas subtly mentions the NBA Draft drinking game last night on air with the word “wingspan.” Video, via Larry Brown Sports)

Cavs all time champs of NBA Draft Lottery

CLEVELAND-CAVS-LOGO

The NBA Draft Lottery was held Tonight and we found out the Cleveland Cavs will pick first in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The Cavs have been lucky enough to get No. 1 pick 3 times in 11 years. However, the Cavs have also been bad enough to get No. 1 pick three times in 11 years.

Unlike last year when Anthony Davis was the clear cut top prospect, a number of players are in consideration this year including Kentucky‘s Nerlens Noel, Ben McLemore of Kansas, and even Michigan‘s Trey Burke or Georgetown‘s Otto Porter.  More than likely, team need will play a huge factor in terms of which player hears their named called first on June 27th.

Marquette’s Vander Blue declares for NBA Draft; smart or dumb decision?

Coming off a breakout junior campaign for the Marquette Golden Eagles, shooting guard Vander Blue has decided to leave school a year early and enter the 2013 NBA Draft.  Blue is by no means a lock to be a first round pick which makes the decision somewhat surprising.  Allow me to break down why the decision both makes sense but could be one that Blue will regret.

Paying a Price for Trading a Superstar

Orlando Magic

There is no denying that Dwight Howard is a superstar and superstars only come around every so often. Teams are rarely willing to trade their superstar unless it’s for another superstar or a group of solid players and draft picks. That being said, I have no words for what took place last night.  [Read more…]
