Montee Ball wins the Doak Walker Award for nation’s best running back

Another fairly famous Wisconsin Badgers running back won the Doak Walker Award during his senior season and that guy was Ron Dayne in 1999.

Montee Ball throws his name in the argument for best Badgers running back ever by taking home the award for the nation’s top running back on Thursday night.

Wisconsin Badgers three-headed monster at running back has returned

You don’t have to go back very far to a time when the Wisconsin Badgers had three dangerous tailbacks.

In 2010, Montee Ball, James White and John Clay all nearly eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark en route to the Badgers first Rose Bowl appearance since 2000.

Two years later and two more Rose Bowl births, the Badgers are right back where they started with freshman Melvin Gordon joining Ball and White in the most dangerous backfield in all of college football. [Read more…]

Wisconsin is going back to Cali for a third straight Rose Bowl

With credit to the late Notorious B.I.G., the Wisconsin Badgers are going, going, back, back to Cali after demolishing the Nebraska Cornhuskers 70-31 in the Big Ten Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The 70 points the Badgers (8-5) scored are tied for the second most in the modern era in school-history and tied for the most ever in a conference championship game (Texas had 70 in 2005).

UW’s three-headed monster is back and fiercer than ever as Montee Ball, James White and Melvin Gordon combined for 539 yards rushing and nine total touchdowns.

Wisconsin plays beautiful defense and still falls short to Ohio State

The Wisconsin Badgers held Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller to his worst game of the season, but it wasn’t quite enough with the Buckeyes prevailing 21-14 in overtime at Camp Randall.

It was the first time the Badgers (7-4, 4-3) have played in multiple overtime games since the 2000 season and their second straight loss at home.

A pair of seniors will be pivotal in the Badgers attempt to take down Ohio State

Senior quarterback Curt Phillips will make his first and last start at Camp Randall when the Wisconsin Badgers welcome in the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes for Senior Day this weekend.

Overall, the Badgers have nine seniors taking part in the festivities, but it will be Phillips and star running back Montee Ball who will be expected to carry Wisconsin to victory. [Read more…]

Wisconsin stomps into a Big Ten Championshp birth with 62-14 win over Indiana

The rest of the Leaders Division will have to wait another year because the Wisconsin Badgers will be the Leaders’ representative in the Big Ten Championship for the second straight year after a 62-14 win against Indiana at Memorial Stadium.

Last season was the inaugural year for the Championship in Indianapolis, so make it 2-for-2 for the Badgers (7-3, 4-2).

It’s gotten to the point where the Hoosiers (4-6, 2-3) dread playing the Badgers as they’ve been outscored 204-41 in their last three games against Wisconsin. Not only that, but the Badgers racked up a school-record 566 rushing yards in the win.

Wisconsin’s road to the Big Ten Championship runs through Bloomington

When the season began, neither the Wisconsin Badgers nor the Indiana Hoosiers could have told you that they would be playing for a birth in the Big Ten Championship at Memorial Stadium in the beginning of November.

But in a twisted and odd season of Big Ten season, that’s exactly the situation at hand.

With a win, the Badgers (6-3, 3-2) will lock up the spot, but a loss will give the Hoosiers (4-5, 2-3) an inside edge at what has become the Rose Bowl sweepstakes. [Read more…]

Michigan State ends the Wisconsin Badgers’ 21-game home winning streak

With a thrilling 16-13 overtime win against Wisconsin, the Michigan State Spartans have proven that the Badgers can indeed be defeated at Camp Randall.

Wisconsin came into the game with the second longest active home-winning streak in the nation at 21 games, their last loss at home coming on October 17th of 2009.

The Badgers defense had quite possibly their best game of the season, but in the end they were on the field just way too much as the Spartans’ quarterback Andrew Maxwell led his team on a pair of late touchdown drives.

#25 Wisconsin faces a stiff test with the Michigan State defense

Unbeaten in their last 21 home games are the Wisconsin Badgers who feel they are back on track as one of the Big Ten’s elite teams after dominating wins overs Purdue and Minnesota.

What the Boilermakers and Gophers do not have, but the visiting Michigan State Spartans do is a legitimate defense.

If Michigan State had a business card, it would say “DEFENSE” in big bold letters and nothing else because it’s all they really need to keep a game close. But will their defense be enough to pull the ever-so rare upset at Camp Randall?

Badgers show off nation’s best running back tandem in win over Minnesota

Wisconsin Badgers running backs James White and Montee Ball are running away as the nation’s top running back tandem.

The duo combined to rush for 341 yards on 39 carries (8.74 average) and all five of Wisconsin’s (6-2, 3-1) touchdowns in a 38-13 win over Minnesota.

White not only dominated the normal running game, he debuted at quarterback in the Badgers wildcat formation known as the “Barge” package. Following the game, head coach Bret Bielema emphasized how “fun and exciting,” this year’s team is.

Wisconsin Badgers go for nine straight against rival Gophers

Every time Wisconsin meets with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Badgers coach Bret Bielema makes sure to give all of his freshman a history lesson on FBS’s oldest rivalry.

Recent history has been kind to the Badgers who have won eight straight in the illustrious battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe.

After opposite starts to the season, the Badgers and Gophers are in pursuit of the same thing and that’s a bowl game. One slight different separates them though; the Badgers are looking for a berth to a significant bowl while the Gophers are merely trying to be bowl-eligible.

How can the Wisconsin Badgers Montee Ball get back in the hunt for the Heisman?

The 5-2 Wisconsin Badgers have been on a roller-coaster to start the season as has their best player in running back Montee Ball.

During the off-season, Ball was ticketed during a block-party and then assaulted by five men not far from his apartment building. The season started off just as rocky with sub-par performances from Ball behind a makeshift offensive line, all while the Badgers searched for an offensive identity during their first five games.

It would all change in a game against Purdue though, when Ball broke off a career-high 247 yards and became the Big Ten’s all-time leader in touchdowns with 72.

As Head Coach Bret Bielema pointed out during his weekly teleconference, Ball is “definitely feeling the mojo.”
