Michigan State basketball will wear specially-designed camouflaged home white uniforms for its game against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Carrier Classic on Nov. 11 (11-11-11) in San Diego.

“I think the uniforms are pretty cool,” said MSU head coach Tom Izzo. “They definitely put the spotlight on our military and that’s what this is for. I like that instead of player names, they put ‘U.S.A.’ on the back. For once, everybody can be on the same team.

The college basketball season starts tonight!  The college basketball season starts tonight!  The college basketball season starts tonight!  To say I’m slightly excited is a gross under-exaggeration; like saying Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries probably should have never gotten married.

If you are unfamiliar with College Hoops 101, it is a weekly feature here at The Sports Bank that breaks down everything you need to know going on in the world of college basketball.  Every Monday I will look back at the previous week’s action, break down what to expect in the week ahead, and most importantly, update you on the obscene amount of games I have watched.

Click here in case you missed my 111 team previews in 111 days to check out the in-depth profiles.

michigan state cheerleaders

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Ranked second in the pre-season polls a year ago, the Michigan State Spartans finished with an incredibly disappointing season.  Expectations are much lower in 2011-2012 as Sparty loses three starters, but never count out Tom Izzo’s ability to make magic happen.

Here’s the kicker, the USS Carl Vinson is the carrier that Osama Bin Laden’s body was flown to for the terrorist’s burial at sea after he was killed by US Navy Seals on May 1st.
