VIDEO: John Oliver parodies Chicago Bulls pregame intros

john-oliver-liverpool

John Oliver struck gold again last night. Before we get to him, we need to remind the reader of the origination of this segment. The Chicago Bulls were THE FIRST NBA team to dim their lights and play loud pump-up music during the introduction of the starting lineup at home games.

Other teams around the league soon followed suit. Then it spilled over into other sports. During the Bulls’ dynasty, the player introductions became world famous. Thousands of weddings during the early and mid ’90s ripped off the Bulls intro when trotting out the bridal party.

5 reasons the Chicago Bulls could beat the Cavs in the East

chicago-bulls-logo-poster-c10207193.jpg

For all intents and purposes, the ‘experts’ have handed the Eastern Conference crown to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Why wouldn’t they after an off-season in which they landed LeBron James and Kevin Love among others?

That’s just the way the Chicago Bulls like it as they thrive on going under the radar and developing into one of the best teams in the NBA almost covertly. There’s one thing Chicago wants to change this season though – regular season wins are nice, but it’s time to go deep in the playoffs. With the way things are shaping up, Bulls fans might just see a return to glory.

More Money For Sports In Brazil And Chicago, More Problems

world-cup-brazil-james rodriguez

Thing about television is that it only shows you the unpleasant and the uncomfortable when it makes for better theater. Rarely is such the case in viewing sports. Besides the actual game action, a national broadcast is going to feed you shots of local peculiarities and regional foodstuffs during timeouts.

Going in and out of commercials you get the blimp views of the stadia amid a lit up downtown at night, stock footage of hustle and bustle during the daytime, and shots of some unique piece of architecture soundtracked by a song from and/or about whatever city the game is in. Oh, hey, look at the city-native-but-now-probably-expatriate celebrity in the stands totally trying to go unnoticed in that black baseball cap. (8,974 screenshots get tweeted.)

And Drake. There’s always Drake.

Rick Telander Tied Chicago Violence To NBA Free Agency For Some Reason

telander-chicago-flag

He did it.

It wasn’t easy.

It took a lot of pandering, false parallels, unfair doling out of responsibilities, and a pinch of dog whistle, but Rick Telander managed to connect this city’s position in NBA free agency to the plague of gun violence here. It’s brilliant in its absurdity, magnificent in how dually counterproductive it is to both the topic of sports contracts and to people being murdered en masse.

’13 Chicago Sports Turkeys: Jordan Lynch, Derrick Rose, ESPN 1000, Hawk Harrelson

Jordan Lynch

It’s that time of the year again. Roll out the hams and turkeys with sides of stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mediocre Thursday NFL football. But before all of the fun and awkwardness that family can offer comes over to your recently cleaned house, let’s take a look at some of the biggest sports turkeys the Windy City has seen in 2013.

To be clear, a sports turkey does not mean that they are not necessarily bad or ignorant. All it takes is one boneheaded or off-the-wall act or decision to be labeled a turkey.

Jordan Lynch bandwagon: This one pains me, but who in their right mind thinks Jordan Lynch is worthy of the Heisman Trophy? Even if Lynch somehow manages to snag an invite to New York for the trophy presentation, it will be a token one. His numbers are more than impressive but have been accumulated against bums. There are at least three other quarterbacks that will rank ahead of him in the voting process, and it is deserved. Like everyone else, I am enjoying watching Lynch single-handedly lead the Huskies to another BCS Bowl game, but have realistic expectations beyond the college football regular season. [Read more…]

Chicago Bulls: Time for a fire sale

Derrick Rose

Bill Murray and Derrick Rose have something in common now.

The Chicago Bulls are officially without Derrick Rose for the remainder of the 2013-14 season following surgery to repair a turn meniscus in his right knee. In hindsight, missing the season is probably the best. The timetable suggests that he had the meniscus repaired and reattached. A shorter expected recovery time would have meant that the surgery would have been to remove or partially remove the meniscus.

Another year is lost for a team seeing its championship window closing quickly. At this point it is shut, and changes should be, have to be made. There are numerous players that probably won’t fit into the team’s future plans and should be sold off to the highest bidder. The Chicago Bulls have to consider trading Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah. [Read more…]

The Chicago Bulls Are With Their Backs Against The Wall

Derrick Rose

Despite having their superstar and leader, Derrick Rose, back after 1.5 years the Chicago Bulls haven’t started the 2013-2014 season as they wanted. After five games in the season they are now 2-3 and they worst thing is that the team doesn’t perform as every Bulls fans would like to.

Derrick Rose likely returning on Monday night!

derrick_rose

A Derrick Rose comeback? Two media sources in Chicago are speculating Rose will play for the first time this season on March 18th. NBA fans will likely have to wait just a couple more days for a Derrick Rose return. Chicago Bulls fans, it seems the 2011 league MVP, Derrick Rose, will be playing on Monday night versus the Denver Nuggets. You can see Derrick Rose on the court, not just on pizza boxes. The Bulls moved the telecast of their game with Denver from Comcast SportsNet+ Chicago to Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

The Bulls are switching places with the Blackhawks, and when you consider that the Blackhawks have been breaking television ratings records left and right, you know something big has to be happening to bump them down. The broadcast news began with Daily Herald Bulls beat reporter Mike McGraw, who tweeted:

Bulls Derrick Rose appearing on pizza boxes now: photo

bulls-derrick-rose

The Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose may not be appearing on an NBA basketball court, at least in a game action any time soon, but he is appearing on pizza boxes. The Bulls Derrick Rose, pizza do I need to throw in the Blues Brothers somehow just so you can have all the Chicago stereotypes in one place?

Chicago based pizza chain Giordano’s (every time tourists visit me going to Giordano’s is near the top of their list) now has the 2011 NBA MVP on the top of their containers. So watch the Bulls with a nice hot pizza, and a glaring reminder of who’s not playing in the game you’re watching.

Will Derrick Rose come back this year?

Bulls victim as Bobcats end 18 game losing streak

bobcats cheerleaders

The current team of Michael Jordan bested the old team of Michael Jordan in a New Year’s Eve matinee, which is extremely embarrassing for the Chicago Bulls. The Charlotte Bobcats ended their 18 game losing streak 91-81 on the road at the United Center. Remember, this is the same team that set a NBA record for lowest ever winning percentage in a season.

It’s clear the Bulls need Derrick Rose back ASAP- but he’s nowhere near ready. You won’t see him until after the All-Star break.
