Derrick Rose likely returning on Monday night!

A Derrick Rose comeback? Two media sources in Chicago are speculating Rose will play for the first time this season on March 18th. NBA fans will likely have to wait just a couple more days for a Derrick Rose return. Chicago Bulls fans, it seems the 2011 league MVP, Derrick Rose, will be playing on Monday night versus the Denver Nuggets. You can see Derrick Rose on the court, not just on pizza boxes. The Bulls moved the telecast of their game with Denver from Comcast SportsNet+ Chicago to Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

The Bulls are switching places with the Blackhawks, and when you consider that the Blackhawks have been breaking television ratings records left and right, you know something big has to be happening to bump them down. The broadcast news began with Daily Herald Bulls beat reporter Mike McGraw, who tweeted:

Bulls Derrick Rose discusses his rehabilitation

derrick-rose-suite

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose addressed the media today for the first time in awhile and said

“I’m at peace with my health and no one should be worried”

“just trying to stay positive, work extremely hard to be better than before. I’m working on my patience knowing that I have to prove I’m ready to come back. I’m about two weeks away from being able to cut”

Scottie Pippen’s encouraging letter to the Chicago Bulls

scottie_pippen

The Chicago Bulls losing their superstar Derrick Rose for the postseason is nothing short of devastation for their playoff hopes. Anytime you lose the reigning NBA MVP it’s disaster.

But Hall of Famer and Bulls legend Scottie Pippen sent the team an open letter of encouragement. Here’s an excerpt:

Derrick Rose: torn ACL, out for entire Playoffs

derrick-rose-bulls

Derrick Rose is out for the entire postseason with a torn ACL. Yes, he’s done for the playoffs, and essentially so are the Chicago Bulls.

Everyone’s reporting it, although NBC Miami seemed to get it first- or jumped the gun on it. Whatever, it’s official now.

The Derrick Rose Greatest Hits Collection

derrick_rose

What a magical season it has been for the Chicago Bulls, who secured the best overall record in the entire league. And what a 2010-11 it’s been for Derrick Rose, who has become the man-crush of the third largest city in the United States. He is to “us” what pre-2008 Brett Favre was to the entire state of Wisconsin. To quote “Zoolander”….”Hansel- he’s just so hot right now,” perfectly describes Rose’s current Q rating.

Rose made headlines this NBA preseason for saying “why can’t I be the MVP? Why can’t I become the best player in the league?” I was there at Media Day when he said it, and I didn’t understand why everyone made such a big deal out of it. It’s not news-worthy; if you’ve paid close attention to Rose’s talent and ambition, you would have seen his natural progression to this stage. It’s what #1 overall NBA Draft picks are supposed to do.

I’ve been covering Rose’s games and writing about his career extensively these past three years; so the MVP season is no surprise.

With the playoff series versus the Indiana Pacers set to tip off, it’s perfect time to reflect on his greatest hits.

Chicago Bulls: #1 Record in NBA, Despite Injuries to Rose, Deng, Noah, Boozer

shanon-lersch

The Chicago Bulls have the best record in all the NBA at 15-3. They have a two and a half game lead in the Eastern Conference over Orlando, and only the 13-3 Oklahoma City Thunder have a winning percentage that comes close right now. The league’s reigning MVP Derrick Rose may not play tonight against Deron Williams and the 5-12 New Jersey Nets; he’ll be a game time decision. Luol Deng will sit out with a sprained left wrist. That means the Bulls, the team which had the best record in the NBA last year,  could be without their two best players.

Derrick Rose Worship Getting Really Out of Hand

derrick-rose-marissa-miller

Last winter, I began to notice that Derrick Rose was becoming to the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago what Brett Favre was to the state of Wisconsin 1994-2008. They were deified, canonized, sacrosanct- deemed incapable of ever doing wrong in any sense. This is a dangerous path people.

I’ll admit I’ve hyped up Derrick Rose as much as possible…as a basketball player. I’ve done everything in my online power to draw cyber attention to the reigning NBA MVP for about four years. But every time I extolled his virtues, it was strictly in a basketball sense. That’s it! So Chicago really needs to take a step back and chillax a minute on the Rose worshiping.

We already have a cautious example to learn from:

Will the Bulls have the Best Record in the NBA Again?

derrick-rose-marissa-miller

The Chicago Bulls led the NBA in wins last year, but like their #1 seed counterpart in the West, the San Antonio Spurs, they failed to reach the NBA Finals.

Chicago returns the same nucleus as last year, with some upgrades. On paper, they should be better. Then again, so will the Miami Heat, who eliminated them last year.

“I think the longer you are together, everything improves. Our goal is to be a well balanced team, those are the teams that do well in the playoffs, I believe we finished 11th in offensive efficiency, we were first in defensive efficiency, we can’t be one-dimensional,” Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau said.

2012 Chicago Bulls Look to Avoid Glass Ceiling

glass-ceiling

Of all the questions surrounding the Chicago Bulls this season, only one truly matters- can they get past the Miami Heat this year? Because of what happened last season (4-1 Eastern Conference Finals loss despite the Bulls having home court advantage), what could happen this year (many NBA experts predict the same outcome this year) and how this script could occur repeatedly in the future, that’s what this season is all about.

Only breaking through that playoff “glass ceiling “matters. Miami will probably have their big three in place for awhile, and that could create a situation commonly referred to as “NBA Hell” for the Bulls and everyone else in the Eastern Conference.

“NBA Hell” and the “glass ceiling” are kind of the same thing.

Chicago Bulls Lock up Franchise (Derrick Rose) $94 Million, 5 Years

derrick-rose-bulls

The Chicago Bulls know exactly where their bread is buttered. The reigning MVP Derrick Rose has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the team worth approximately $94 million.

Rose on the extension: “I’ll be able to afford what I want. But not too many things excite me except winning and being around my family.”

The deal was done right before the Bulls completed their two game preseason (both wins) versus the Indiana Pacers.

Will Bulls Get More From a Slimmed Down Carlos Boozer?

carlos-boozer

Perhaps Carlos Boozer will pull more of his weight with the Chicago Bulls this season, given that he’s lost quite a bit of it from his body.

GM Gar Forman Sunday at Media Day: “Carlos came into camp 20-plus pounds lighter. He’s in great shape.”

Perhaps the improved conditioning will make Boozer that true second banana that Rose sorely lacked last year. Booze gets paid like a star, but he didn’t live up to it during his first season in Chicago. He missed the first 20 games, which isn’t too big of a deal because that’s how we rolls-usually. The Bulls know how injury prone he is when they handed him an $80 million contract.

It’s what happened when he came back that was so disappointing.
