Flashback: 2011 NBA Draft Drinking Game

nash dirk drunk nba draft

Happy NBA Draft day! Time to flashback and republish one of our favorite NBA Draft articles of all time. It’s one that ESPN personality Jay Bilas himself acknowledges on NBA Draft night.

One of my favorite articles to write every year is the annual NCAA Tournament Championship Drinking Game. Here are the three we have done in case you missed them; 2009 Michigan State vs. North Carolina version, last year’s Butler vs. Duke one, and this past season’s Butler vs. UConn Drinking Game.

So why not do one for my favorite night of the year, the NBA Draft.  Even if you do not have a rooting interest in tonight’s draft and have never heard of half the players likely to be picked, invite some friends over, buy a heck of a lot of booze, follow our drinking rules, and you have a memorable night.

(UPDATE: Jay Bilas subtly mentions the NBA Draft drinking game last night on air with the word “wingspan.” Video, via Larry Brown Sports)

Ricky Rubio Will Be a NBA Bust

ricky rubio timberwolves

Not much has gone right for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the last twenty plus years.

They had a brief flirtation with success during the Flip Saunders and Kevin Garnett years, but the well has been almost completely dry otherwise. The frustration was palpable this spring when general manager David Kahn went over the edge expressing his concerns with the NBA lottery.

The Cleveland Cavaliers garnered the top pick this season and Kahn insinuated that the result was due to anything but the randomness of the ping pong balls. The team will presumably pick up forward Derrick Williams from the Arizona Wildcats after the Cavaliers take Kyrie Irving from Duke. This is not horrible news because the experts do believe that the two at the top of the draft have a large separation from the rest of the field.

Ricky Rubio Decision Headlines Minnesota Timberwolves’ Off-Season Plans

Like we are currently seeing in the NFL, the 2011 NBA off-season is up in the air with a lockout looming.  Free agency could be delayed and completely restructured depending on the new agreement reached by the owners and players.  Still, The Sports Bank will break down all thirty NBA teams over the next six weeks to see what areas they need to address in the off-season.  Up first, the worst team in the league; the Minnesota Timberwolves.

NBA Trade Machine Challenge: Blow Up Pistons’ Roster

rip hamilton tayshaun prince

The Sports Guy refers to himself as the Picasso of ESPN’s NBA Trade Machine.  Well if he is Picasso then The Sports Bank’s Peter Christian and David Kay are the da Vinci and van Gogh of the trade machine (though neither would cut their own ear off while working on a trade… or at least I don’t think.)

In this new feature, Peter and David will play the role of NBA general manager since they are likely more intelligent than half of the GM’s out there.  One will propose a challenge to the other to make a trade happen with certain requirements and the other will accept the mission like he were Tom Cruise and explain why all parties involved would pull the trigger on the deal.

Larry Bird worst NBA GM? Draft Record Says So

Larry Bird

When I first saw that SB Nation had ranked the Indiana PacersLarry Bird as the worst GM in the entire NBA, I was kind of surprised. For one thing, he hasn’t continued to spend money on stupid contracts like David Kahn in Minnesota. In fact, he has been busy the past few seasons trying to get the Pacers out from under the contracts of Jermaine O’Neal and Jamal Tinsley. While the pacers still have a year to go in that process, they are at least on their way out of the financial hole they have dug for themselves.

Then I saw Bird’s draft record.

Douchebracket Peter Christian Regional Finals

by Peter Christian

After two weekends of match-ups of in the NCAA Tournament, it’s possible you may have missed the action in the Peter Christian Regional of the Sports Bank Douchebrackets. Maybe it was because of the immensely entertaining games on the hardcourt or maybe it was because our TV contract with Spike TV hadn’t been ironed out yet. Either way, you missed out on some fierce douchebaggery and even some scuzzbucketry as well. Pepper Brooks (the Gus Johnson of the Douchebrackets) nearly lost his mind and actually did lose his pants 3 times while calling the action and Kevin Federline was off his lazy rocking chair in flabbergastment at least a dozen times while providing color commentary.

As a refresher, take a look at the 1st round match ups of the Peter Christian Regional
