2013 NFL Season Predictions: Super Bowl Champion Bengals!

bengals

Making predictions for the Super Bowl on February 2nd today on August 27th. Yes, you got to love it. That’s why I’m all about the Cincinnati Bengals as your Super Bowl champion. When you make NFL divisional and Wild Card picks before even the 4th preseason game…well that’s bold.

Look for these to be about as accurate as my NFL mock draft. So don’t take this with a grain of salt. How about a whole truckload of salt. Well, time is a wasting so let’s jump right to the predictions.

Chicago Bears DE Corey Wootton is indeed becoming the Coreysaurus

wootton

Chicago Bears defensive end Corey Wootton is starting to grow into the nickname he’s always had.

“They call me Coreysaurus, cuz of my height and long neck,” Wootton told me in an exclusive during his days at Northwestern. In 2012, the 6’8″ and lanky Corey Wootton started to play like that ferocious dinosaur nickname on the professional level.

In Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans, Wootton scored his first career touchdown off a blocked punt, which had been blocked by former Northwestern teammate Sherrick McManis.

ESPN finds Jay Cutler at fault for Robert Griffin III injury

espn-jay-cutler

ESPN continues to dumb down it’s audience and make people less informed about sports.  Today the network actually posed this question for its panel: “How much do you blame Jay Cutler for RG III’s injury?” Yes, this is not parody but a serious attempt at “journalism” by the WWL. What a way to “cover” the Robert Griffin III surgery that took place today.

Bears Devin Hester clarifies retirement comments on Twitter

devin_hester

Earlier this week the Chicago Bears Devin Hester made comments about how NFL football is no longer fun for him and how he thinks this could be the end of his career. He also said his family is a factor and he needs to take that into account regarding his decision about his future. These comments came on the same day Bears coach Lovie Smith was fired, and given how close Hester was to Lovie, there was speculation that the two incidents were related.

Also factor in that Hester, one of the NFL’s most dangerous return men in history did nothing on kick returns in 2012, and had a very non-descript year catching the ball, and it’s easy to see why he made such comments of frustration. But today he clarified.

Chip Kelly a good fit to replace Lovie Smith?

chip-kelly-disneyland

There’s been enough written and said about the job security of Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith. If he’s gone, which is quite likely, time to move forward and think ahead to his replacement. Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly is being recruited by the NFL once again.

He turned down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head job last year and rumors are abound that he’ll replace the soon to be fired Andy Reid in Philadelphia. With a record of 45-7, the highest winning percentage in all of college football, third in the nation in wins over that span, and he’s made a BCS bowl every year he’s coached in Eugene. He’s a hot coaching commodity. And he endorses this website, which is very important.

But will his coaching style translate to the NFL?

Chicago Bears cut ex-Buckeye Dane Sanzenbacher

Dane Sanzenbacher

The Chicago Bears have decided to part ways with their homeless man’s version of Wes Welker, a guy known for wearing bolo ties while in college at Ohio State.

Sanzenbacher played in just four games this year totaling a WHOPPING one reception for seven yards. He had a better rookie year last season, appearing in 16 games, 27 receptions on 54 targets, 276 yards and three touchdowns.

670 The Score Bears Overcoverage: unlistenable self-promotion

Urlacher_Touchdown

How much Chicago Bears coverage is enough? Everyone in the media, including myself, is guilty of ridiculous over-coverage of the team. But 670 The Score is by far the worst offender. And a major reason they do it is to promote their sister station, WBBM, which broadcasts the team’s games on the radio.

Obviously, this is a Bears town first. Whether the team is winning or losing. The Cubs are 1b. to their 1a. when they’re in the playoffs. And Michael Jordan borrowed the city for a decade, making the Bulls come first during the ’90s. (It even helped me remember the difference between bear market and bull market, who was up in the ’90s and who was down?) The Bulls come third, and then there’s a drop off to the White Sox and Blackhawks.

So I understand how much the Bears move the needle, and the media must follow suit.

Bears Brian Urlacher doesn’t care for fans, media, Lovie Smith detractors, refs

urlacher-boobs

Brian Urlacher had an interesting view of the Chicago Bears loss to the Green Bay Packers yesterday. His view from IR was quite opinionated. Maybe this is the end of his days with the Bears? Or the end of his NFL career? During his weekly appearance on the local Chicago FOX news program he had some choice words for Bears fans, the media and those who think Bears coach Lovie Smith should be fired.

Bears Chris Conte rips fans in Tweet; channels George W. Bush

chris-conte

Remember after 9/11 when then President George W. Bush proclaimed “you’re either with us, or with the terrorists” to the entire world? Well the NFL version of that came today after the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears and put the Bears in serious jeopardy of making the playoffs. Bears safety Chris Conte turned on his own fans by tweeting the following:
