Colin Kaepernick sets NFL records in win over the Packers

Colin Kaepernick vs. Packers

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh went from potential idiot to genius in a matter of a few hours after his hand-picked quarterback shredded the NFL record books in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Second-year guy Colin Kaepernick who resembles a human-like gazelle on the football field ran for a NFL-playoff record 183 rushing yards on 16 carries against the Green Bay Packers. As a whole, the 49ers racked up an astounding 581 of offense in the 45-31 win.

For a team who dedicated the entire off-season to improving their defense, it has to be a tough loss for the Packers.

X-Factors for the Packers and Vikings playoff game at Lambeau

dujuan harris

There’s a lot of bad blood between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings who took part in two of the better regular season match-ups this year.

Green Bay won the first round back in early December and this past week the Vikings took round two to earn a shot at a third and final round.

With elimination on the table it would be easy to say superstars Adrian Peterson or Aaron Rodgers will be the difference, but that’s a bit too easy.

Here are some of the lesser known players who will be the x-factors in Saturday night’s rumble in Green Bay. [Read more…]

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers roll the terrible Tennessee Titans

Aaron Rodgers vs. Titans

Earlier in the season, it would have been appropriate to point out how the Green Bay Packers play down to lesser competition in close wins over the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars at home.

Can’t say that now though as the Packers (11-4) steam-rolled the Titans to the tune of 55-7.

Aaron Rodgers was responsible for four of the touchdowns, throwing three and rushing for another.

Green Bay Packers go with a balanced look in win over the Lions

Balance was the word of the day for the Green Bay Packers on a snowy night at Lambeau Field.

A breakdown of 32 rushing plays compared to 24 passing plays helped the Packers (9-4) overcome the Detroit Lions by the score of 27-20.

Even the famous and tremendously funny Will Ferrell was digging the Packers on this night with his winter knit Packers cap and a performance of “Roll Out The Barrell.”

The odds are stacked in the Packers’ favor against the Detroit Lions

When the Detroit Lions visit Green Bay it gives the media a chance to show off a bunch of unique statistics in the NFL, a league which has become defined by parity.

The recent past between the Lions and Packers has nothing to do with parity.

The Lions haven’t won in the state of Wisconsin since 1991, back when Barry Sanders was breaking ankles and dropping the jaw of every fan in the nation.

Back and Forth: Packers win a game with five lead-changes

An offensive explosion which seems imminent whenever the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions meet didn’t happen. What did happen was a back-and-forth game dictated by turnovers.

The Packers (7-3) Aaron Rodgers wasn’t perfect, but his throws were on the money when they counted as he led his team to a fourth-quarter, 24-20 comeback win.

The injury-riddled Packers beat the Cardinals for their fourth straight win

Injuries are as common to football as cheese is to Wisconsin, but the plague that has hit Green Bay is way beyond what any normal team goes through.

After beating the Arizona Cardinals by the score of 31-17, the Packers (6-3) are legitimately without 11 starting players. New injuries to WR Jordy Nelson, OL Bryan Bulaga and LB/DE Clay Matthews only adds salt to an open wound as the team enters their bye week. [Read more…]

Green Bay Packers running game in shambles in 24-15 win over Jaguars

Despite giving the Jacksonville Jaguars multiple opportunities to compete, the Green Bay Packers held on for a 24-15 win in a game where it could be argued the Jaguars looked like the better team.

Blaine Gabbert outplayed Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ (5-3) run-game was non-existent against a Jaguars (1-6) team who’s one of the league’s worst at defending the run.

A win is a win, but it leaves you wondering if the Jaguars’ moral victory is slightly better than the Packers’ real victory.

Green Bay Packers schedule gets easier with the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Green Bay Packers opened the season by playing teams who now have a combined record of 28-18 including the San Francisco 49ers (5-2), Chicago Bears (5-1) and Houston Texans (6-1).

Against the league’s cream of the crop, they went 2-1 and are inching back up the power rankings with each week’s stronger showing.

Finally, the Packers get to welcome one of the league’s bottom-feeders into Lambeau Field. The Jacksonville Jaguars have displayed more problems than positives and have a huge mountain to climb to compete with the Green and Gold. [Read more…]

Aaron Rodgers close to perfect in a 30-20 win over the Rams

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ “Shhhhhh” campaign continued as the Green Bay Packers beat the Rams 30-20 in front of a St. Louis crowd full of Cheeseheads.

Rodgers was near perfect while completing 30 of his 37 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Last season’s MVP has thrown 16 touchdowns in his last four games.

Green Bay Packers will experience a franchise first against the St. Louis Rams

For the first time in franchise history, the Green Bay Packers will play their third consecutive game in a dome. After road games with the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans, the St. Louis Rams are the next team to welcome Green Bay into their house.

The Rams (3-3) are an up-and-coming team with a stingy defense. All three of their wins have come at home, but they haven’t faced the Packers (3-3) Aaron Rodgers who’s the all-time leader with a 115.9 passer rating in domes (minimum 200 passes).

Green Bay Packers Alex Green has a shot to jump-start his career

In the NFL, one man’s injury creates a meaningful opportunity for another.

As is for most teams in the league, this was the case for the Green Bay Packers with running back Cedric Benson being placed on IR (designation to return) and the promotion of second-year back Alex Green to the starting job.

Green was far from overly-impressive in his first game as a starter (22 carries for 65 yards), but it provided the framework for what could be a promising career for the 24-year-old kid.
