We have an answer now to one of the main story lines that has surrounded this Women’s World Cup. Will star striker Alex Morgan be ready in time?
No. Yes. Sort of. Kind of.
FOX Sports Analyst Eric Wynalda urged U.S. Women’s National Team fans not to panic if Alex Morgan doesn’t start tomorrow:
“Don’t hit the panic button if you tune in and Alex Morgan isn’t starting, and we don’t expect her to because of her injury,” Wynalda said.
“This is a marathon, not a sprint, and we have to be ready for that. It’s a great opportunity for some of the other women to solidify their spots or convince everybody that they will be an asset in this competition.”
The USWNT take on Australia Monday night in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. Central on Fox Sports 1. If Alex Morgan doesn’t start, and/or plays limited minutes, expect Amy Rodriguez to see an increased role in the attack with Abby Wambach becoming the primary American goal scoring threat.
And to quote a famous citizen of Morgan’s home state of California: “so just chill, to the next episode.”
“So don’t panic,” Wynalda advised.
“I think we’ll be okay.”
