2009 has been a great year for Big Ten basketball, as they FINALLY beat the ACC in the Challenge (Hallelujah). But it was an even bigger year for the publicity of the most famous person who regularly covers Big Ten basketball. You know her, you love her. She captures the attention of Big Ten student sections everywhere: ESPN’s Erin Andrews. According to the National Post’s story on the most Googled (and I guess I could say “Yahooed”) terms of the year.

“The reality show couple everyone loves to hate, Jon & Kate Gosselin, topped the list of “Sudden-Fame” searches for 2009, while ESPN reporter Erin Andrews came in second after an illegally recorded nude video of her found its way online.

In his book “God Save the Fan,” Will Leitch defines Erin Andrews in his media glossary with the phrase “probably responsible for 80% of masturbation fantasies in the states of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan.” Don’t forget Illinois and Indiana! This year, and the peephole video-taping crime drama, certainly proved him right.

Here’s what else made the list

Top 10 Sudden-Fame Searches for 2009
Jon & Kate Gosselin
Erin Andrews
Susan Boyle
Kris Allen & Adam Lambert
Nadya Suleman
Carrie Prejean
Governor Mark Sanford
Portuguese Water Dog
Falcon Heene
Sonia Sotomayor

“America’s Team”, the Dallas Cowboys topped the sports category along with the evil empires the New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Lakers. Also the Pittsburgh Steelers cracked the Top 10. Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao was the only male athlete to make the list, (SERIOUSLY NO TIGER? OR FAVRE? WHAT?!?!)

Instead the list was dominated by eye candy female athletes with ungodly amounts of endorsement dollars like Maria Sharapova, Danica Patrick and Anna Kournikova. Although I have issues including Kournikova in the athlete category, especially since she retired from tennis years ago and went into a  much more lucrative job field. That job is full time living masturbation fodder.

Speaking of Erin Andrews, here’s something else she did recently that made the internet rounds. This paragraph quotes CBS Sportsline.com’s Clay Travis

Erin Andrews humiliates Arkansas’s Ryan Mallett and then LSU wins in overtime to toss salt in Hog wounds.

ESPN cuts to Andrews as Arkansas takes possession in overtime. Andrews talks about the recent celebration on the Arkansas sideline after the touchdown on fourth-and-9 and says Mallett turned to her and said, “I told you so!”

Then Andrews says, “I don’t know why he’s telling me that, I haven’t talked to him all week.”

Which makes me wonder, how many college football players contact Erin Andrews every week? And how entertaining would those texts be to see?
