The Sports Bank is extremely proud to partner with the Hammer & Rails Podcast NETWORK to bring you the inaugural episode of “Let’s Get Weird, Sports.” What is this show exactly? Well, it’s something we’re very excited about as it’s unlike anything else we’ve ever done before.
As my partner Casey Bartley described, it’s “A new venture in sports story telling where we dive deep into the weird, phenomenal world of sports. Drunk History meets 30 for 30 sports documentaries where we tell you about fascinating and hard to believe sports stories.” If you’re the type of person who enjoys NZ Sports Betting then you probably like consuming international athletic competition, and thus you’ll love this story.
We start with the most insane and just utterly stupid race that was ever run in the entire history of sport- the 1904 St. Louis Summer Olympics Marathon. It’s a topic we discussed on this site as the Winter Olympics approached in February.
It’s a race where
-the original winner was disqualified for riding in a car during a significant portion of it.
-the eventual winner lost eight pounds during the competition, and was tripping balls at the finish line due to his force fed cocktail of rat poison, brandy and raw eggs.
-the fourth place finisher took a nap in the middle of it after a bout with food poisoning, and he wasn’t even invited or sanctioned to begin with
-the ninth place finisher was forced over a mile of course by an aggressive wild dog.
That’s just the start. Without further ado, give Let’s Get Weird, Sports a listen below:
