Ryan Fitzpatrick has the New York Jets starting QB gig for now, and he won it in what seems like the most “Jetlike” way possible. Starting QB Geno Smith was knocked out for 6-10 weeks in the preseason due to then teammate Ikemefuna “I.K.” Enemkpali sucker punching Smith in the locker-room. Smith’s broken jaw will force him to miss a good chunk of the season’s first half.
Of course, this series of events was portrayed by the national NFL media as being quite possibly the most “Jets way” that a NFL QB1 could be determined.
When you live and breathe in the “capital of the world,” the nation’s number #1 media market, everything is amplified.
This is the town of Frank Sinatra, Jay-Z, Jennifer lopez, Bloomberg, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Lorne Michaels and other assorted individuals with egos the size of cathedrals. When you’re QB1 of the New York Jets, you’re putting yourself in the same category as personalities like Broadway Joe Namath. The bright lights come with the territory.
Our good friends at Football Betting Center have set the odds on which signal caller will start the most number of games for the New York Jets this season. Take a look:
Ryan Fitzpatrick: 1/5
Bryce Petty: 20/1
Geno Smith: 20/1
By the way, here’s the Super Bowl odds for the Jets, and a select number of teams in the same general vicinity.
Chicago Bears: 55/1
Houston Texans: 55/1
Washington Redskins: 85/1
New York Jets: 90/1
Oakland Raiders: 90/1
Cleveland Browns: 100/1
Jacksonville Jaguars: 150/1
You’re up now Ryan Fitzpatrick, in the words of Jay-Z, show us what you got. In a related story, the New York Jets were given the best odds of any team to lead the NFL in player arrests. More on that here.
