Fox Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer reports that New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan told his team he believes he’ll be fired at the end of the season:
“Last night in the Jets team meeting, talk about a motivational tool, Jets head coach Rex Ryan walked into his team meeting and said, ‘guys, word on the street, I’m getting fired. I’m not coming back. I’ve got two weeks left.’ Rex Ryan has always viewed himself as a sacrificial lamb and whether or not that decision has been made, we don’t know, but he walked in there and said ‘guys, that’s the word on the street, I’ve got two weeks left here, you guys ride with me. Roll with me here for the last two weeks we’ll see what happens.’”
During his regime in New York, Rex Ryan has been known for a personality as big as his stature. Big talk and big egos work quite well in the media epicenter of the United States, the Capital of the World…when you’re winning. When you’re losing, the Rex Ryan fun and candor just doesn’t fly. And with the New England Patriots beset by injuries, the AFC East was right there for the taking. Rex Ryan and company did not step up to take it though.
