As the Premier League season approaches, NBC Sports linked up with comedian Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live, Hall Pass) to promote NBC’s Premier League coverage. Meet Coach Ted Lasso, an American football coach who has just been named the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur.
The video is entitled “An American Coach in London.”
He’s not just American, he’s Texan. So all the Yankee stereotypes about English football are ramped up with this comedic bit.
“Is there a third kind of football maybe I could look into?” Lasso asks. An Assistant Coach gives Lasso a crash course on Premier League by creating flash cards of Premier League FCs and describing their NFL counterparts.
“Manchester United. Super-rich, everybody either loves them or hates them,” the assistant says.
“Dallas Cowboys,” Lasso responds.
“Liverpool. Used to be great. Haven’t won a title in a really long time.”
“Also the Dallas Cowboys,” he answers.
Tonight during the broadcast of the NFL Hall of Fame Preseason Game, Dallas Cowboys vs. Miami Dolphins, NBC will air two 30-second TV spots. NBC and NBCSN coverage of the Premier League begins August 17th.
