Greg Hardy was given a second chance by Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys this season. Picking him up was one of the slimiest transactions made by a NFL franchise this season, and that really says something given how many morally repugnant things have occurred in Roger Goodell’s league lately.
Oh by the way, the Cowboys are 0-5 in games where Greg Hardy has played. So much for Jones’ endorsement of Hardy’s “leadership” and “winning attitude.”
Then you have the public relations nightmare the Cowboys have deservedly suffered from signing him.
Lots of NFL pundits have been calling out Jones and the Cowboys over all this, but ESPN reporter Wendi Nix probably did so in the most effective way this morning. (You can watch video of that here at this link)
FOX’s Terry Bradshaw called out the so-called “America’s Team” over this back on October 13th. His rant was epically spot on. Last Sunday, the NFL on CBS crew shredded Jones and the Cowboys over this topic, and deservedly so. Don’t forget the interesting take from FOX’s Charissa Thompson too.
So while the entire NFL talking head community has mirrored public opinion in being against the Cowboys decision to keep Hardy around, Dallas themselves have remained stubborn.
However, that may soon change.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport
On Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy:
“I’m told over the last several weeks that Greg Hardy’s support from upper management is starting to wane in Dallas, mainly because of his behavior over the last couple weeks. Of course we know that two Thursdays ago he missed several meetings and was almost late to practice. I’m also told before last week’s game, on Saturday night Hardy was late to a pregame meeting, something that did not sit well at all with Dallas. Owner Jerry Jones, head coach Jason Garrett, several veterans on the team, his agent Drew Rosenhaus – all have stepped in for Greg Hardy, had some very harsh talks with him to try to get him to act accordingly and behave properly. But it’s a little bit of a different time in Dallas. Jason Garrett is trying to regain control of this team and it could make an example of Greg Hardy if this behavior continues. One example of that is two players were cut this week: Corey White and Christine Michael. There were only two players on the last trip who did not wear suits: both of those players were them. A small thing but an example for Jason Garrett.”
On the Dallas Cowboys’ frustrations with Greg Hardy:
“From what I can gather talking to several sources involved in this, they are frustrated that the efforts that they have made to try to give him the second chance simply have not worked as well as they’ve wanted. On the field he’s been fine but you can only put up with so much from any player no matter how talented he is. It simply seems that the Cowboys are getting to the end of their rope with Greg Hardy.”
In other words, give it a few days, maybe a couple weeks, and you can say “hey, thanks for coming Greg Hardy. We have some lovely parting gifts for you.” Given the PR disaster that this has been for Dallas, don’t expect any other team to sign Hardy after this. This will be the last stop for his pro football career.
