Enjoying NFL Network at Home, AND on Your Mobile

When NFL Network first came on the air in 2003, I was pretty excited. FINALLY, I could watch television shows strictly NFL in content and NOT have to endure the ANNOYING Chris Berman. That’s how much I enjoy watching football highlight shows, I was willing to put up with the bloated bloviating Bristol idiots in order to see professional gridiron highlights.

I actually enjoy College Football Gamenight Final on ESPN, but with NFL Network I get an upgrade for the pro game that leaves me both better informed and entertained. And now with NFL Mobile, available through Verizon Wireless, I can get that experience not just at home, but also when I’m on the go.

If you’re a huge professional football nerd, the NFL Mobile app is for you.

You can use it to access the latest news (injury updates of course), information, schedules and scores from around the league. The first thing you should do when downloading the app is set your favorite team- then you can receive daily text alerts with highlights when new content related to your team is available. As a New England Patriots fan living in Chicago (long story about the Bears, longer story about the Pats) I’m inundated with media coverage of the Monsters of the Midway, but don’t see/hear enough about my beloved Evil Empire of 2000s NFL football. (The  2010s have been a bit slower)

There’s also a Fantasy Football Tracker with links to the NFL.com Fantasy Football game; and on demand access to NFL Films content. These features are like the Wes Welker of smartphone apps- always reliable, and essential to keep things going. You can’t spell awesome without w-e-s.

But it’s the video quality on the 4G smartphone that really blows me away. It’s like the 2007 Tom Brady to Randy Moss combination level of a feature. When you combine the fourth generation speed with the quality of my new Droid Bionic, and the video content provided by NFL Network, you can reach a new, 16-0 level of smartphone app. (Just don’t ask me how that 18-0 season ended!)

Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone customers have access to NFL Mobile premium, including all video, for the entire season. Customers with 3G smartphones who want even more NFL video can subscribe to Verizon Video for $10/month.

But for me, it’s the NFL Network video I enjoy the most.

They produce shows that incorporate the music of Snoop Dogg (’90s hip hop is all time favorite genre of music).

It doesn’t hurt that a few of their reporters (former Denver Broncos cheerleader Michelle Beisner, Lindsay Soto, Kara Henderson, Stacy Dales, Alex Flanagan) are all extremely high on the eye candy scale. (Click any and all of those names where highlighted for our gratuitous photo gallery)

And my favorite athlete as a child, Deion Sanders, is also a network personality. Being a brash, somewhat buffoonish showman and former defensive back (albeit only at the high school level) myself, I’m always ready for “Prime Time.”

With this phone, this app and this network I can be Prime Time all the time.

In accordance with the FTC Guidelines, I am disclosing that I have received a Motorola Droid Bionic from Verizon Wireless free of charge, in return for my agreement to blog about my experiences with the Droid Bionic. Although I have a material connection to Verizon Wireless, any publicy stated opinions of Verizon Wireless and their products remain my own.
