“Dismal? “Dismal is an understatement. It was pathetic, the defense was atrocious,” said former Dallas Cowboys cornerback and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders regarding the Dallas Cowboys start to their season.
How long can the team be this bad and still keep their “America’s Team” brand from being tarnished? There have been 8-8 season aplenty, but given how pathetic their performance was in week one, 8-8 looks like a pipe dream right now.
CBS Sports and NFL Network hosted a Thursday Night Football conference call with Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports, and Executive Producer of THE NFL ON CBS, Brian Rolapp, EVP of Media, NFL, the Thursday Night Football announce team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, and studio analysts Deion Sanders and Bill Cowher.
“Tony Romo has been the Tony Romo we know, it’s almost like the offense needs to take its time and score, because they have to exhaust as much time as possible before putting the defense back out there,” said Deion.
“I don’t know where to go with this team, Jerry Jones is the bets marketer I’ve ever seen in my life because every year he leads us to believe that this team has a chance”
Here’s the podcast:
Said Bill Cowher: “Tony Romo is back to making very poor decisions, he’s very careless with the ball. I’d be worried about his health, this is a team that I think is going to struggle to win 6 games”
Said Phil Simms: “I’m one of those guys who falls into the trap every year. ‘Oh look at the Dallas Cowboys, they have talent, they’re going to put it all together.’ You think this all the time, but this is the first year I’ve said they have no chance. There’s no way you can overcome so many pieces of the puzzle that lack NFL talent. If they can pull an 8-8 year out of this team, it would be great.”
“This defense, it seems as though they picked up right where they left off last season, and that’s atrocious.” – Deion Sanders on the Dallas Cowboys defense after giving up 28 points to the San Francisco 49ers at home on NFL Gameday Final.
– “They have to get the ball to DeMarco Murray a little bit more. They have to try and control the tempo. That’s what they need to do going forward. And maybe they can hold onto the ball and outscore people because they’re certainly not stopping them.” – LaDainian Tomlinson on the same show articulating what he thinks the Dallas Cowboys game plan should be going forward.
