Chip Kelly has been to Disneyland. It’s part of the itinerary for the Rose Bowl. Kelly has won a couple of those. Maybe Kelly is just in the Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier mold. His methods and tactics are ingenious in college, but easy to solve in the pros. When you lose 45-7 to the LOLions, and your seat was warming already to begin with…well, we can see where this might be headed.
Perhaps Chip Kelly needs to return to the Southern California region; and for more than just a business trip. Maybe USC should be the next stop in his career?
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport On Chip Kelly’s future in Philadelphia:
“Chip Kelly will face a decision at the end of the year and nobody close to him actually knows what he’s going to do. Colleges are certainly much more of a threat than NFL teams mainly because if he did want to change teams, it is incredibly complicated in the NFL.
But USC still has interest in Chip Kelly. They would pose the biggest threat to him. But when you do talk to people with knowledge of his thinking, what they offer up is that maybe he’ll still want to prove that he can fix the Eagles. He doesn’t want to look like he bailed on the situation as he did with Oregon.”
Remember that report was made before the Eagles Thanksgiving DISASTER in Detroit. There are 13 head coaching openings in FBS this year; nine in the Power Five. For more perspective; here are some more Chip Kelly takes from NFLN today.
“The next two games will define their season: this game at Detroit and then the next game at New England. We’ll know all about the Eagles and Chip Kelly the next two weeks.” – Steve Mariucci on the Philadelphia Eagles
– “Chip Kelly, these are his players. The Andy Reid guys are gone. He built this team and this is his team…I don’t know if they can make a run, stack games, win back-to-back games. I think they’re going to be up and down each week.” – Marshall Faulk on the Philadelphia Eagles
CHRIS SIMMS: Chip Kelly the GM needs to be fired. That’s for sure… He’s going into year three just like years one and two – he’s not sure who is going to be his quarterback. I bet you Chip Kelly ditches town and goes to Texas or USC. That’s where I’m putting my money.
– “His system is built for the future quarterback of what’s taking over in this league. He just hasn’t found that future quarterback. He hasn’t found his Cam Newton or his Russell Wilson.” – Michael Irvin on Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly
Like Rodney Dangerfield, maybe it’s time for Chip Kelly to go “Back to School.”
