Jay Cutler has decided to delay his foray into broadcasting. He was slated to work the week one broadcast of his former team, the Chicago Bears, but it appears that contract to work in the media business has been torn up. Instead, Cutler will be back on the field this fall, agreeing to a contract with the Miami Dolphins.
“Insiders” (whatever the hell that word means these days) from both ESPN and NFL Network just minutes ago tweeted out news of the new deal.
The Dolphins will open up their preseason Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, as a one point underdog according to most sports books. Other houses though size up this exhibition game as a pick’em. Your given online casino doesn’t give Miami very good Super Bowl odds, as the Dolphins are being backed at 50-1. The Super Bowl favorite is exactly who you think it would be, the division rival New England Patriots who are showing at 15-4. Perhaps the Jay Cutler signing will help give the Phins better odds.
At this stage the contract doesn’t appear finalized, but Adam Schefter reported it’s a one year deal. For Jay Cutler, it’s a chance to stay in the game for another year and put off whatever is next in his life after football (if broadcasting is indeed the way he wants to go).
He also reunites with Adam Gase, the former Bears offensive coordinator that really seems to be the only coach that has truly reached him during his career and actually inspired Jay to reach the heights of his potential.
Cutler had his finest season ever under Gase in 2015, but unfortunately for the duo that Bears team was very poor and went just 5-11. Still, Gase parlayed his offensive efficiency into a head coaching job with Miami, and now Jay Cutler gives him cover at the QB position, which was badly needed following the loss of QB1 Ryan Tannehill due to injury.
