ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay was on conference call with the media yesterday to preview the upcoming draft in May. I linked the audio to that call, where you can listen to an amusing back and forth between Todd McShay and reporter John O’Connor.
Unfortunately, ESPN did not transcribe the conference call. But I typed out his response, the best of which came from the very last question on the call.
You can hear the meta of Todd McShay evaluating his own NFL draft stock around the 39:40 mark. Also, listen to the guy asking the question around the 14 minute mark. That will brighten your day.
O’Connor: “Let me throw you a curveball, can you give us a brief evaluation of Todd McShay, a mid ’90s quarterback at Richmond?
Todd McShay: “He was terrible, couldn’t get on the field, couldn’t stay healthy.” he then laughs
O’Connor: “Your experience there was a good one I trust?”
Todd McShay: “You know I went there thinking I was kind of a big deal coming out of this tiny little town in Massachusetts setting some records, winning some games and it took me all of 8 minutes to realize how little of a deal I was. We wound up moving to the option game, and I took a look around the quarterback room and I realized that I didn’t fit there….”
McShay then talks about how much faster all the incoming skill position players there were and adds this gem “I could make Peyton Manning look like Usain Bolt.” Todd then goes into detail on how he just didn’t fit in there, was relegated to the scout team and then began the transition to the current career he has today..
