Make no mistake, this is not a “marijuana offense” for New England Patriots Defensive End Chandler Jones. The youngster from Syracuse is in a very weird situation that involves medical marijuana, so high times are not criminal times in any way possible.
He has broken no laws, as he was smoking the good weed as a way to treat a medical condition.
Here’s an explanation of the situation from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network; on Chandler Jones:
“A very bizarre situation that unfolded in Foxborough early Sunday morning. A shirtless Chandler Jones walked up to the Foxborough Police Department seeking help.
“According to the official release and sources, it was synthetic marijuana that Jones had used by himself in his house. Obviously had a bad reaction to it and was seeking help from what was deemed a medical issue. As the release states, Jones actually broke no laws because of his use of this, though the Patriots were clearly disturbed by this issue.”
They also appreciated that when he got into trouble that he sought help and did the responsible thing. Of course he ended up apologizing later in the week in the locker room for his actions. As far as the NFL’s drug policy goes, there is no specific test for synthetic marijuana but I am told it is in the purview of the NFL’s testing policy. He will play today.”
So stay tuned Patriots and Chandler Jones fans, as this story is still just developing.
