Kenny Bell is the greatest NU wideout of all time. Seriously.
Nebraska Cornhuskers football is a very proud program that has accomplished a lot of things. However, they really haven’t had a whole lot of standout receivers. Kenny Bell had 5 receptions for 89 yards tonight at Northwestern through three quarters. He finished with those numbers as the Huskers blew Northwestern out in the second half and pulled away 38-17. NU didn’t have to pass much, and Bell got to rest as Northwestern only had 28 total yards in the second half.
it was quite the convincing road victory.
Bell now needs just five more grabs to tie Nate Swift for the all time Nebraska record. He needs just 69 more receiving yards to catch Johnny Rodgers for the school record in receiving yards.
With 8 more receiving touchdowns he’ll tie Rodgers for that record. With five games left, he’ll easily break those first two records. The last one….well, it’s not very likely. However, he’s still right up there with Rodgers and Irving Fryar as the best Husker wideouts of all time.
Of course, Nebraska football moving into the modern era on offense rather slowly has a lot to do with this. It wasn’t until the mid 2000s that NU really started airing it out. Kenny Bell has caught a pass in 22 straight games since not catching a pass at Iowa in 2012. The 22-game streak is the fourth-longest in school history. Prior to not having a catch at Iowa two seasons ago, Bell had a catch in 23 straight games giving him at least one catch in 45 of the last 46 games.
