Former Wisconsin Center Frank Kaminsky has a great game, but an even greater personality. Every college basketball season, someone wins the national individual player of the year awards, but it’s not every year that someone is also colorful and congenial.
Kaminsky gives great soundbites and he writes even greater blogs. He said that he developed his goofy side as a child because, due to his being so gangly and so tall, he had to do something to fit in.
He brings personality to the locker room and makes good copy for the media. Therefore, we were thrilled to have an exclusive with Kaminsky, as he informed us how the NBA Draft process is progressing for him.
Part one of the podcast is below:
During his four years in Madison, Kaminsky provided some great material for stories, like when was asked to describe his Badgers teammates, and he said “white guys.” Then you had the famous “Joe College, the NBA looks boring” blog post.
We had an exclusive with Frank Kaminsky at Big Ten Media Day, where he explained it. The official website of the NBA has a Consensus Mock Draft, a compilation of 12 mock drafts around the web.
The overall points driven composite has Kaminsky going #11 overall to the Indiana Pacers. Not so coincidentally, Kaminsky was one of five players to workout with the Pacers on Sunday. Three of the twelve mocks have Frank Kaminsky going #12 to the Jazz; four have him projected #13 to the Phoenix Suns.
On a side note, both Kaminsky, and his former Wisconsin teammate Duje Dukan, grew up big Bulls fans because they both have connections to team personnel.
We asked him about his dancing “The Carlton” on CBS’ Selection Sunday programming, as well as what NBA franchises might be able to replicate the college atmosphere that Kaminsky (and so many more of us) love so much.
Here’s part two of our exclusive with Frank Kaminsky, podcast embedded below:
He discussed the Golden State Warriors extensively in his answer. In a previous article we discussed how Frank Kaminsky would fit in with the Lakers. That’s a moot point now, given how the NBA Draft order shaped out, but it’s still interesting to peruse the link given our Kaminsky scouting report within it. Plus, it gives us a sense of how Kaminsky would fit in on other teams similar to the Lakers.
That said, Kaminsky flew under the radar in high school. Badgers coach Bo Ryan had a humorous response when asked about the senior’s development.
“I don’t know if people in the Chicago area were saying Frank was that good when he was in high school— who were you hanging around with?” Ryan said, joking.
“No, he was developing. He was developing in a very nice way, maturing. He’s grown in a lot of ways.”
