Danica Patrick finally finished a race in a spot not in the high 20s or 30s for a change. She finished a respectable 13th in the Quicken Loans 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.

Danica Patrick, driver of the GoDaddy Chevrolet SS scored just her third top-15 finish of 2013. Remember, Patrick finished eighth in February in the season-opening Daytona 500 and 12th in April at Martinsville. Still think NASCAR is fixed? If it is, then why don’t they fix at least one race for their most popular driver/media personality?

Or at least let her finish in the top 5 for once.

Crew chief Tony Gibson was pleased with Danica Patrick’s first Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan.

“We had a really good car all day,” Gibson said. “She did a really nice job. We were a little loose to start, but once we got that fixed, we were definitely a top-15, top-20 car. We tried to stay on the same track position as all the other leaders and make sure we didn’t get ourselves in a bad position. And then we let her do the rest. It was a good day for us. She drove hard.”

Patrick’s teammate Tony Stewart, finished fifth to score his 12th top-five in 29 career Sprint Cup starts at the 2-mile oval. It was also Smoke’s third top-five this season.

Danica Patrick is competing for the Rookie of the Year honors against her boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr., She finished three spots ahead of him.

The next Sprint Cup race is the Toyota/Save Mart 350k on Sunday, June 23 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. We’ll see how Danica Patrick does then.
