I’ve stated numerous times that I CANNOT STAND 1.) pop songs about sports teams and their bandwagons and 2.) amateur attempts at singing.
Thus when an edition of this genre comes along and it’s great, not just great, but brilliant…it’s almost transcendent. Cubs memes creator Matt Paolelli did just that with his Hamilton Chicago Cubs mashup.
Paolelli and his three brothers created the video, and uploaded it to YouTube on Saturday. It’s got 35,000 views as of Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully, it deservedly gets a few thousand more after this post.
Before you watch it, this is just for the people who haven’t seen Hamilton yet, or know the Hamilton opening theme embedded below:
Now here’s Paolellis’ Cubs themed Hamilton creation, which has numerous clever lyric changes, but possibly my favorite was “The New York Mets can’t……New York…….” Or changing “took a collection to send him to the mainland” to “a petition to send him to Waveland.”
Again, make sure you’re familiar with the Hamilton original, in order to truly appreciate the creativity here:
