Jim Harbaugh is the college football equivalent of a beauty pageant winner or actress/model. The attention is always on him, and the more you can’t have him, the more you want him. His press conferences are painfully boring and ludicrously uninformative, yet he’s receiving Johnny Manziel in 2013 level media coverage.
No this is way worse than Manziel. The media has a boner over Jim Harbaugh that rivals the boner Woody Allen has over the city of New York. Remember, Harbaugh is not an entertainer, or a comedian. It’s not his job to be interesting or funny.

Harbaugh probably loves the attention, even though he’ll never admit it (nor should he). Also, Harbaugh certainly doesn’t do a lot to bring the spot light upon himself. He doesn’t act very zany most of the time. It’s the media who try so hard to make his non-interesting things appear interesting. He doesn’t even give the media basic information like a depth chart or the identity of the starting quarterback. He even went with the dreaded “OR” on the depth chart released today.
Again, it’s his job to be secretive, it’s what college football coaches do. That’s fine, but please don’t televise all these worthless, pointless media sessions in which NOTHING is said.
FOX will have an expanded 90-minute pregame show live from Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City before the Wolverines and the Utes, take the field at 8:30 PM ET.
In addition, you have the Harbros, and that khaki covered bus thinggee.
Have a look at the Harbros here:
FOX Sports also has a camera in a local Ann Arbor bar to show fan reaction throughout the game, and FOX Sports GO offers “Khaki Cam. You thought Jim Harbaugh khaki jokes were at 14:59 of 15:00 already! Well, prepare to vomit this college football season, as we’ll be inundated with them all year. In the words of Dr. Dre, “I’m expressing with my full capabilities” that the Harbaugh over-exposure is, has been and will be ridiculous in 2015.
“Khaki Cam” features a camera devoted entirely to Harbaugh as he paces the sidelines for the first time leading his alma mater Thursday night. The khaki jokes are quickly approaching “ironic” ugly Christmas sweater party levels. This isn’t just a FOX thing, or a Big Ten Network thing (BTN are partnered with FOX by the way). It’s every outlet; all the time. All the networks are extremely obsessed with this guy.
So what is it like to cover Harbaugh everyday? Listen to this podcast from Maximus and the Bartender. It’s with the Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis. It’s very informative and fascinating.
She covers UM football and she described the “submarine mentality” that Jim Harbaugh has instituted on the U.S.S. Jim Harbaugh that is Michigan Wolverines football.
