I once received a compliment while in the midst of a very ugly and brutal break-up (Not that any break-ups are pleasant). My thought the next day was: “wow, that nice thing she said to me must REALLY be true, because she still said it even though she hates me more than any other individual human being on this Earth.”
That’s legit praise right there. Likewise when one of the greatest heroes in Ohio State lore compliments a Michigan Man through and through.
Eddie George, winner of the 1995 Heisman Trophy, and second leading rusher in Ohio State history, appeared on CBS Sports Network’s “We Need To Talk” (see what I did here now with the intro sentence/break-up analogy?) and offered this assessment of Jim Harbaugh, Michigan and the Big Ten East race.
Eddie George: “Ohio State has the talent on the roster, the head coach to get it done and certainly they have the experience having done it last year… Michigan really concerns me… Jim Harbaugh has his guys playing with their hair on fire. They’re playing for him. They’re willing to run through a wall. They’re believing in his system. They’ve created a new culture that I haven’t seen in quite some time.”
Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State’s elite current running back, will pass up George for second place all time on The Buckeyes list with 204 more rushing yards.
In life after football, George earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management (as did the woman I’m describing in the intro paragraph, life is filled with weird coincidences). In 2016, he will appear on Broadway in the play Chicago (the place from which this post is originating); his role is hustling lawyer Billy Flynn.
With Jim Harbaugh returning to Ann Arbor, this year’s edition of The Game is going to off the hizzy. Both teams are still in the mix for the Big Ten title game. Ohio State can get there by winning out. Jim Harbaugh and company can get there by winning and getting some help.
