“Spartans Will!”
Brian Hoyer, former Michigan State Spartans QB, threw for 321 yards and 2 TDs in leading the Cleveland Browns over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Hoyer wasthe Browns 19th different starting QB since 1999, the most in the NFL over that span. Brian Hoyer, a undrafted free agent out of Michigan St. (yes, I brought up MSU a second time) had previously played for the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cardinals.
The Browns are starting their 3rd string QB this week. It’ll be their 19th in 14 seasons: https://t.co/yMuF2ZROQB pic.twitter.com/xOdZTqkj8w

Brandon Weeden, the Browns’ 2012 first-round pick who had started the first two games of the regular season, injured the thumb on his throwing hand in the previous week’s loss to the Ravens. But this job belongs to Brian Hoyer, even when Weeden is active. Period.
The fact that Brian Hoyer got the nod yesterday, not Jason Campbell tells you that the Brownies have decided it’s a two horse race between Weeden and Brian Hoyer.
The Trent Richardson trade has clearly told us the Browns are rebuilding; so do it with Brian Hoyer. It’s the way to go.
CBS pundit Phil Simms agrees with me on Brian Hoyer.
“I think it was really a disgrace that he wasn’t in the NFL once the New England Patriots let him go. Why wasn’t he in the League? Well because he didn’t have the name. He wasn’t a high draft pick. All the political stuff that is wrong. But he can play. He has good presence on the field. What I said about Andrew Luck, I say about Brian Hoyer… He’s got chutzpah. It’s a great trait that he has and he brought some personality to that football team yesterday,” Simms said.
