Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho said last month that he’s open to a move to Old Trafford. Previously, he had been rated in the £30m range. I’ve even seen his price tag as high as a 37 million release fee.
Now according to the Daily Mail, United have held talks with Sporting about William Carvalho, as the Portuguese club have now dropped their asking price down to £23.8 million. United remain interested in Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, but it’s doubtful they club could sign both.
Sporting Director Augusto Ignacio said: “It’s not like the old days when players left Sporting at any price.
“We are not concerned with William Carvalho because we have alternatives, who will want to play as well.
“The termination clause ensures a great deal to Sporting. I am very pleased with the negotiations.
“It is not easy to negotiate for players, you need to be very shrewd but Sporting have a president who knows how to negotiate with anyone and what is best for the club.”
