Manchester United Captain Wayne Rooney has finally ended the longest Premier League competition goal scoring drought of his storied career. Rooney went 999 minutes of league play without scoring, but the drought is now over. He was brilliantly set up by Anthony Martial.

Rooney’s goal and Martial’s assist made it United 2, Sunderland 0 midway through the second half. Wayne Rooney scoring his first Premier League goal since April, bagged his 171st career brace with United, moving him into a tie with Denis Law for third all-time on the Red Devils career scoring list.

For all the criticism and flak that Wayne Rooney has taken early this season (and deservedly so), this is truly a great moment for him (and for the club in general).
