Never too early to start talking Manchester United transfer rumors and of course that means the never ending Cristiano Ronaldo return narrative. As unrealistic as it may be in the short term, this story just won’t go away. United Manager Louis van Gaal commented on it today.
Van Gaal said of possible future transfer activity at Old Trafford:
“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable. With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope. There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.” (h/t The Guardian)
So while Van Gaal does admit the club is very interested in a potential Ronaldo return, he doesn’t make it sound like its very likely right now. Then again, CR7 was booed by his own fans today in El Clasico, and his situation with Rafa Benitez supposedly leaves much to be desired. So maybe in the long term, down the road there might actually be something to this.
Ronaldo, winner of three Ballon d’Or awards in his career, starred at United from 2003-2009. Supposedly, he was to return in 2013, was ready to sign, but Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement changed his mind at the last minute.
