Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal has had a drama filled set of days. Last week, the internet buzzed with stories of United senior players confronting Van Gaal about the issues they had with his training and direction. This news dominated the headlines in European football coverage on Thursday.
Van Gaal, a man nicknamed The Iron Tulip, lightened the mood and eased the tension by breaking out into song/chanting during his Friday press conference.
Of course, winning cures everything, and this narrative never would have even surfaced in the first place had United been in first place.
Beating arch-rival Liverpool 3-1 on Saturday helped immensely and today Van Gaal had some fun at the expense of the media coverage of his club.
“We have a lot of meetings, you know,” Van Gaal responded with a smile while answering a question about the team’s free kick drill.
“It means a lot of meetings and a lot of training sessions. I have heard the words ‘boring’ and ‘too rigid’, but it is like that. I think that every player has to be very happy with his profession because he makes from his hobby his living. Then you have to show your professional attitude.”
