Here we go again, another set of conflicting reports about the future of Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal. Yesterday brought reports that Executive Vice President Ed Woodward talked Van Gaal out of resigning not once, but twice this past weekend.
Van Gaal reportedly admitted that he’s failed in this role, and he’s willing to accept it and move on, according to a report in The Guardian.
Today brings a new report disputing that. Sources have told ESPN FC that the club denied the earlier report claiming manager Van Gaal offered to resign following Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Southampton. According to ESPN FC, “footage on Sky Sports News on Tuesday showed Van Gaal arriving to take training at the club’s Aon Complex in Carrington.”
The trend of more noise, less signal, regarding Van Gaal job status stories continues. There’s an extremely strong desire for LVG to be dismissed among the fan base. That popular sentiment, along with the complete lack of any remotely interesting MUFC activity on the transfer market, has created a persistent need for Van Gaal sack watch stories everyday.
United fans crave news all the time, and there has been very little this January transfer window. Since they haven’t added any new players and don’t seem to be interested in doing so these next five days, MUFC supporters then look to see if the team will finally sack the Dutchman.
Nothing is definitive there, hence we consume and analyze stories of events that may or may not have happened. This latest development is the perfect example. As was the story of the club having a Pep (Guardiola) talk in Paris. That also might, or might not have happened.
