Time for your daily David de Gea update. It’s a a never ending soap opera like Arturo Vidal was last summer. Will he stay at Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid? Nothing is official yet of course, but here’s the latest headlines on the situation:
-(The Sun) Manchester United chiefs are willing to offer David de Gea a new bumper contract to keep him in England.
-(Daily Star) Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is willing to give up £12 million in order to secure his dream move to Real Madrid.
-(Daily Mail) David de Gea expressed ‘love’ for his team-mates on last night after collecting the Sir Matt Busby award for Manchester United’s Player of the Year for a second year running and the Players’ Player of they Year gong.
But the goalkeeper appears bound for Real Madrid with United already lining up Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Dutch keeper Jaspe Cillessen as possible replacements for the Spaniard.
Manager Louis Van Gaal would like De Gea to stay, repeatedly affirming his admiration, but that is unlikely to change his mind. Not when the most powerful man in football is pulling the strings.
De Gea’s representative in the boardroom is super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has brokered some of the biggest deals in world football over the last decade.
