A new BBC documentary airing on Sunday has some fascinating anecdotes regarding legendary Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Previously, we knew that Sir Alex had considered Pep Guardiola as his successor.
As the BBC doc points out, Fergie would have picked Ryan Giggs to be his successor had Giggs not carried his playing career on so long. Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to make Giggs his assistant, and then mentor him for a few years.
Another interesting Sir Alex Ferguson revelation in this BBC documentary- Fergie doesn’t think choosing David Moyes as his successor was a mistake; at all. Ferguson took this a step further by even saying that Moyes was definitely the right choice at the time the decision was made.
“I don’t think we made a mistake at all. I think we chose a good football man – [he] did a great job at Everton, had 11 years there. We picked the right man. Unfortunately it didn’t work for David,” said Sir Alex Ferguson.
Unfortunately for Fergie, the actual results contradict that statement.
United fell out of Champions League and into 7th place under Moyes. In his first job since getting sacked, Moyes is doing even worse with Real Sociedad.
