By now it seems inevitable that David Moyes will be ousted at Old Trafford. Someone at Manchester United leaked the story, because everyone had it, and his dismissal should be made official sometime today. Interesting way for United to drop the axe, firing him through the media one day before they officially do it themselves.
David Moyes will get one year’s compensation (£10m) from his six-year contract after failing to meet key performance metrics. Earlier, United could have been on the hook for £39m)
Just in case you were wondering how the club is buying out his contract when he indeed has a multi year deal. Missing Champions League, now officially gives them the escape clause. Even though Moyes’ fate was sealed as far back as February 25th (following the CL loss at Olympiacos), the hold up was waiting until United were officially eliminated from top four contention.
It’s been said that some United players were telling friends that David Moyes was going to be fired this weekend, BEFORE the sad sack 2-nil loss at Everton.
The outgoing Premier League champions have refused to comment on the widespread reports on Monday afternoon, but Sky sources suggest Moyes will be gone by Tuesday at the latest. The legendary Sir Alex Ferguson had urged the club to give the next manager time when he stepped down about a year ago after 26 amazing years at Old Trafford, but owners, the Glazers, the MUFC Board have taken the mantra of “stand by your manager” as far as it can go.
Enough was enough.
According to the Manchester Evening News, David Moyes was set to take a break from football at the end of his Everton contract until he got the call from the Red Devils. He will be the first United boss sacked since 1986.
Ryan Giggs to take over as caretaker manager with Nicky Butt as an assistant to close the season out. Then, it’s probably Louis van Gaal time. (the Dutch National Team Coach is the front-runner) Although, some people believe there’s still a chance for Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp.
Though I don’t really believe that’s so.
This is a trying time for the Moyes family, so please don’t lash out at Lauren Moyes, David’s daughter. She’s been through enough already. Especially on Twitter.
Oh and enjoy this satirical Twitpic, it’s brilliant. And hilarious on numerous levels.
