Here we go, battle of past and present Bayern Munich managers round three: Pep Guardiola vs. Louis van Gaal.
The Manchester United Manager got under the skin of the Bayern boss by saying that every player he targeted in the summer transfer window would love to join United. It was part of an interview in which Van Gaal refuted the vicious critiques Pep Guardiola made of the Red Devils.
Pep Guardiola got this whole tiff started last week by saying stars like Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Muller were too expensive for Man United and that the players did not want to leave for the Premier League anyway.
Van Gaal came back by saying that everyone he was approached, and spoken with, would love to join the team.
That led to round three today:
‘If the player wants to stay, they stay,’ said Pep Guardiola. The slight clearly hit the mark because on Saturday night Van Gaal, a former Bayern manager, hit back by saying: ‘It is not so interesting what he said. I think every player I have contacted wants to play for Manchester United.”
