The Daily Star is claiming that Paul Scholes will still be offered a coaching role at Manchester United. Yes, even despite his scathing attack on MUFC Chief Executive Ed Woodward. Yes, even despite Paul Scholes claiming that he hasn’t spoken to new Manager Louis van Gaal.
Starsport can reveal Woodward is planning talks with Scholes about a future role coaching the reserve and youth teams and wants him to stay at the club, even after his outburst.
Phil Neville could also be offered a position within the new coaching set-up and a senior United source said: “Everything that has been decided so far has been announced, but we want all these guys at the club if possible and that certainly includes Paul Scholes.”
If true. Absolutely astonishing. You’ll recall the specifics of the Paul Scholes rant against Ed Woodward:
“I’ve not spoken to Edward Woodward. I came back for Ryan Giggs for the last few games of last season to try to help out, but I’m not waiting for a phone call and don’t expect to be at United next season.
“David Moyes took a lot of stick, but I believe he’s a top manager. I’d question if 10 months was enough time. Edward Woodward has an awful lot to prove this time that he’s good enough at his job.
“He has to bring the players in that the new manager wants. It’s obvious that last year he didn’t manage to do that. If he doesn’t we are not going to get anywhere near the top.”
