Patrice Evra is your new Manchester United captain. At least for the interim. It’s thought that Wayne Rooney will assume the role next year. As Captain, it’s now Evra’s duty to speak up about what’s gone wrong with the doomed season. Even Patrice Evra admits that United have not shown enough fight this season since David Moyes took over as manager.
The current United captain Nemanja Vidic is injured, and also has one foot out the door and into Inter Milan. So Patrice Evra has to take over some of the spokesperson role. He knows the supporters are upset and very critical. Patrice Evra admits they have a right to be, because the total 100% effort and result hasn’t been there.
“We’ve had a tough season and the big problem is we don’t play with that spirit in every game,” Evra said after United’s Champions League victory over Olympiakos.
Evra was quoted in The Telegraph in regards to the crushing loss at home to arch-nemesis Liverpool:
“If you lose 3-0 against Liverpool I think the fans will boo you. I think we deserved that. It would be no surprise. But I was in shock because they [the United fans] were still singing until the last second. You have to make sure when people give you something you have to give back. It’s payback. Against every team.”
