As we wrote earlier today, the acquisition of Bastian Schweinsteiger to the Manchester United midfield doesn’t exactly rule out the additional transfer of Morgan Schneiderlin. Of course, not many thought this deal would go through this quickly. With the Southampton midfielder having his United medical, it’s truly been an epic couple of days at Old Trafford.
Executive Vice President Ed Woodward might have had the best weekend in United transfer window history. Between Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian, it was a very exciting couple of days.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Schneiderlin has already had his medical at Carrington and joined the club according to United’s press photographer Craig Norwood. The reported fee for Schneiderlin is in excess of £25 million. That means United spent over £52 million on new players in just the past three days.
It took a bit for United’s summer transfer window to heat up, but it’s certainly red hot with activity right now. Deadline day isn’t until September, but the club is acting like the deadline is tomorrow, when they fly to the United States to begin their summer preseason tour. Schneiderlin will reportedly join the team in Seattle, Washington.
Given of course that everything goes according to plan, and there are no unforeseen issues.
How great is it now for all media, to have the opportunity to say Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin together in midfield all the time? Combining these two with Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera, it will be interesting to see how Manager Louis van Gaal will fit everybody in. There’s a lot of talent in the middle now.
