Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick could return against Arsenal on Sunday. United manager Louis van Gaal gave a press conference today previewing the weekend fixture, instead of on Friday as is the usual routine. Carrick’s availability for selection was possibly the most important news to emerge from the media session, although there was some significant talk about fatigue.
United didn’t suffer any new injuries in the Champions League win yesterday, so that was also a major takeaway. You can watch the video of the Van Gaal presser at this link.
Getting back to Carrick, he missed the Champions League win over Wolfsburg with an injury that was deemed only to be a minor setback. Van Gaal said this to MUTV:
“Carrick can play so I have a choice. I’m happy to say that there are no injuries from last night.”
Carrick has dealt with so many different injuries over the past year, but United are very deep at the midfielder position. The signings of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger were indeed some of the most underrated transfer business that United did over the summer.
