Manchester United are back at the top of the Premier League table. The Red Devils started slowly today, but finished with a flourish to beat lowly Sunderland 3-0 in extremely convincing fashion. Previous table toppers Manchester City suffered a thorough thrashing from suddenly surging Tottenham Hotspur, and it resulted in United leap-frogging City for first place.
Winger Memphis Depay opened the scoring during the first half’s extra time. Here’s the footage, in high definition via YouTube, of his first Premier League goal:
Wayne Rooney scored the second goal, beautifully set up on an assist from Anthony Martial, to make it 2-0. That ended a league scoring drought of nearly 1,000 minutes for Rooney, and it placed him third (tie) on the all-time United scoring list.
Juan Mata completed the scoring late in the second half. He was set up perfectly on a brilliant pass from Ashley Young. Here’s footage of that below:
