The Manchester United goalless drought is now 325 minutes and counting. If you’re interested in reading up on just how bad this dry spell has become, and care to dissect all the numbers in relation to it, we’ve got you covered at this link. United Manager Louis van Gaal has expressed his concern, as he should, about the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace today.
He did not put a positive spin on it.
“We were not the better team today and that’s a concern,” Van Gaal said.
“Against Middlesbrough, I thought we had chances to finish, so that is of more concern. But today we had no chances to win it.”
“After 15 minutes we came into the match, had positional shape and made chances, like Ander Herrera in the last minute of the first half. You have to score that.”
As dull and drab as today’s effort was, Van Gaal’s side has a very quick turnaround with a chance to get it right. That’s a very good thing, as they can have a short memory this week. The time will soon be at hand to try and activate the attack. They take on CSKA Moscow in group stages of UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
“When I see the characters, I don’t think they have doubt about their quality. They need one match, and I hope that’s against CSKA Moscow because we need the victory,” Van Gaal said.
United had a 1-1 draw with CSKA when they visited Moscow in the first leg of their matchup. Despite the awful scoreless spell, the Red Devils remain in the Premier League top four.
