There’s been a lot of talk lately about how Manchester United has been overly focused on buying players and abandoning the development of their youth program. Given all the big spending on big name transfers in this past window, the critics came out to condemn United for stressing the buying of veterans and new players instead of developing prospects in their own system.
Assistant Manager Ryan Giggs even brought it up at the Soccerex Convention. He shot down this narrative. Louis van Gaal did the same today. In speaking with the media connected to the club, Van Gaal talked about how important the Manchester United youth program is, and how much the the young players are being emphasized.
Louis van Gaal says it is vital for #mufc to bring through talented youngsters, labelling them as “guardians of the culture of the club.”

Asked if he’d hesitate to pick a youngster over a big signing, van Gaal replied: “Money doesn’t say anything. Quality says everything.”
