Manchester United came into this season with sky high expectations. Premier League title talk was only ratcheted up further when Jose Mourinho got off to the greatest start for a manager in club history. Mourinho won the Community Shield, and then the club’s first three contests in league play.
Then came the most hyped up Manchester Derby in history, which ended in disappointment for the Reds. Two more losses followed, prompting the critics to come out and fire at Mourinho.
Today he responded, and in typical Mourinho fashion it was colorful and interesting. He referenced one of the 20th century’s greatest intellectuals, a scientist who discovered the theory of relativity.
“I can understand clearly the disappointment. If the fans have been disappointed with the last week, I understand completely but I am sure they will be behind the team like they always are,” Mourinho told the club’s official web channel, MUTV, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Then came the Albert Einstein references.
“We had a bad week. I know that the world is full of Einsteins, I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career, they tried to delete an unbelievable history of Manchester United football club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that’s the new football, it’s full of Einsteins.”
