Earlier this week, some Jose Fonte to Manchester United transfer rumor stories started circulating in the Twitterverse, blogosphere, cyberspace and media world. United Manager Jose Mourinho gave his weekly press conference today ahead of tomorrow night’s clash versus Southampton.
Fonte is the Southampton team captain, so naturally Mourinho received a reporter question about the Saints defender on Thursday.
You can watch the entire Mourinho presser at this link, the Jose Fonte Q&A is at the 6:40 mark.
No doubt the back line is now the weakness of this United team, so if they’re going to make an upgrade, it’ll be in the defender position group. The Red Devils have an embarrassment of riches in midfield, and their big money attack is loaded too.
Mourinho wasn’t having it though, as he refused to really talk about the idea.
When asked about United’s reported interest in the player in his news conference on Thursday, Mourinho replied with: “I don’t comment. I don’t care. I don’t care”
He then went on to say that he doesn’t discuss players on other teams, and gave the impression that there isn’t much credibility to these rumors. Mourinho did also point out that the transfer window is open until Aug 31st, but really the only take away from that exchange is “don’t care.”
